Little About Us
THE BUSINESS OF MUSIC RADIO SHOW
Bigshot Records and Washington’s Entertainment Connection ‘s CEO and renowned drummer Brian Choper, is joined by Mickie Hill of Support Live Music DC on our bi-weekly radio program entitled “The Business Of Music or TBM.” The program is produced in the DC area and promoted nationally. It is available to everyone via the internet. The program provides knowledge and advice to assist bands, music professionals and the general public regarding all areas of today’s music business.
Of the vast number of topics to be discussed, some will include managing bands for success, acquiring a professional agent, getting booked at venues which support live music, discussing what brings people out to see live music, promotion and social media, music from the perspective of the audience vs. the perspective of the band, what is a dance band vs. a show band, life on the road, etc.
For those interested in what goes on behind the scenes, the discussion will reveal how a song is written by demonstrating how they are written live on-air, and there will also be live on-air concerts to spotlight artists. The show will also provide reviews of concerts and other events by both Mickie and Brian.
As part of the mission of Gigs For Good, the program will highlight bands performing for fundraisers, worthy projects or purposes of social good. The show will provide information on where you can see the best bands live as well as listener opinions on which bands are the best and why. The show will never give a yes or no answer without an explanation listeners can understand. We encourage you to tune in, learn and participate.
Song credits: Many people have been asking about the show’s theme song. Our theme song (the song we always begin and end each episode with) is entitled, FLY, and was written by our signed artist and the company’s Music Director, Lou Durham back in 2003. The song was discovered by Big Shot Records owner Brian Choper during a sit-down with Lou several years later as they were looking through Lou’s vault of original compositions. The version you hear in this recording is the only time this song has ever been recorded. It was arranged by Lou along with Brian with help from members of his early Nexus Rock Band. The song was played and recorded by the Nexus Band back in 2008. Lou played piano, and this tune features Brian on extensive drums and Fred Jacobowitz on some elaborate clarinet work.
Brian has since encouraged Lou to create lyrics for this tune. Take a listen for yourself and let us know what you think. If you like what you hear, please go to and FRIEND the Brian Choper Nexus Rock Band and Lou Durham’s Facebook pages.
